People Tree releases in full the new spring/summer collaboration with Emma Watson to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight on 28 February.
Committed to promoting sustainability in the fashion industry Emma Watson said; “The design process continued with me trying on each and every piece to get the fits just as I wanted them and then I visited Bangladesh to see the clothing actually being made and meet the people making it. It was an incredible and life-changing experience –I really wish everyone had the chance to see the difference Fair Trade makes with their own eyes.”
During her trip to Bangladesh Emma Watson was able to better understand the importance using hand skills and working with Fair Trade principals which helped in her design process.
Emma Watson continued, “Fair Trade fashion comes from the villages – and provides a real alternative to working in a garment factory and the harsh environment of living in a slum. Fair Trade fashion is often completely handmade – and made of 100% natural and organic cotton – and it’s a small miracle that we as consumers can participate in a process that is keeping skills and communities alive and helping them to prosper.”
Leaving the collegiate influences of previous collections behind the new range features more dresses from silk gingham checks, florals, polka-dot handweaves to jersey wrap arounds. Relaxed styles come from playsuits, harems and kimono jersey shirts.
The collection goes on sale through the People Tree website and a special 36 page catalogue in which Emma Watson models throughout. In addition a one minute video featuring Emma Watson modelling her new collection will also be released.
