14 May 2011 - Fair Trade Forum India will launch ‘FAIR TRADE INDIA’, India's first Fair Trade brand for shops, at Indha Shop, Sushant Towers, Delhi, today during the occasion of World Fair Trade Day. Swatantra Rock music group will be performing during the occasion.
“With Fair Trade India brand, we feel more equipped to reach out to more supports of conscious consumers as 'Fair Trade India is a pan-India initiative,” says Indraani Singh who is the founder of 'Indha shop' and Literacy India, the Fair Trade organization which owns the shop.
“Fair Trade India” brand has been developed with the support of European Union under ProSustain project, being implemented in India by Fair Trade Forum India, the National Fair Trade Network and HIVOS, a Netherlands-based development organization along with the other partners IRFT and SFC.
The brand will be soft launched in five more shops in Kolkata, Bangalore and Ooty, on the same day -14th May- evening, as part of the initial phase of brand-launch.

It also ensures that utmost care to build up Environment-friendly practices is maintained during the process of production”.
Ultimately the “Fair Trade India” brand denotes that a shop carrying the brand is the right place for consumer to buy Fair Trade products. Because “Fair Trade India's inherent principle of “Transparency” helps consumers to ensure that she/he is at the door steps of socially clean, exploitation-free and informed consumption. The brand ensures that content and value for money offered to consumers is translated into development to grassroots producers, down the supply chain in India.”
The “Fair Trade India” branded shops will join the family of other Fair Trade shop networks such as “World Shops,” which have become the synonym for “Fair and Exploitation-free Consumption” in Europe. The Fair Trade movement, which reached out to European consumers through such shops in the early 1960 in Europe, is at present getting increased consumer attention for its commitment to provide clean products to consumers. A recent survey organized by 'Fair Trade Forum India', the Indian national Fair Trade Network reveals that more than 50% of Indian consumers, especially the youth is looking towards “Clean and Fair products” which is now promoted through the “Fair Trade India” branded shops.
India India, currently, more than 100000 producers artisans and farmers are at present working with Fair Trade and exploring reaching out to responsive consumers with their products. Indha Shop, Gurgaon, in the NCT of Delhi, Sasha Shop in Kolkata, The Ants Shop in Bengaluru and Green Shops in Ooty, Coonoor and Kottagiri are getting the “Fair Trade India” brand on 14th May, World Fair Trade Day 2011.
Fair Trade Forum India (FTF-I) is the national network for Fair Trade in India. At present 85 Fair Trade organizations are affiliated to FTF-I through which more than 100000 grassroots producers - artisans and farmers are getting opportunity for social and economic empowerment.
